The CoDI project in India is managed by BAIF, and implemented in the four states by some of its associated organizations. BAIFs Mission is to create opportunities of gainful self-employment for the rural families, especially disadvantaged sections, ensuring sustainable livelihood, enriched environment, improved quality of life and good human values. This is being achieved through development research, effective use of local resources, extension of appropriate technologies and upgrading of skills and capabilities with community participation.  BAIF is a non-political, secular and professionally-managed organisation.

BAIFs national programme is active in 12 states, benefitting approximately three million families in 47,000 villages. The CoDI project specifically complements BAIFs “Wadi” programme, which covers orchard development, and currently benefits 122,700 families over an area of 46,700 ha.

The principal objectives of the CoDI project within the Wadi programme are for orchard development, product processing, germpasm conservation, rural employment, empowerment of women, and sustainable resource use.
